Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot Ludolf Backhuysen (born December 28, , Emden, East Frisia [Germany]—buried November 12, , Amsterdam, Netherlands) was a Dutch painter, celebrated for his sea pieces. Backhuysen studied under the Dutch painters Allart van Everdingen and Hendrik Dubbels.
Ludolf Backhuyzen was born in Ludolf BACKHUYSEN – Bakhuysen started his career as a bookkeeper. He had a very nice handwriting and loved to arithmetic. Working for a wealthy merchant at Amsterdam, he discovered so strong a genius for painting that he relinquished the business and devoted himself to art.
